RACGP and RNZCGP combined bid to host Wonca World Conference in Sydney, 2016

29 April 2010

This month Dr Chris Mitchell will be attending the Wonca World Council Meeting in Cancun, Mexico, where the RACGP and the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP) will present our joint bid to host the World Conference on Family Doctors - Wonca in Sydney in 2016. The bid presentations will take place on Monday 17 May, during the World Council Meeting just before this year’s World Conference. Dr Naomi Harris, Chair RACGP membership committee, and Dr Dee Mangin from the RNZCGP will present the bid. Our competition is Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) and Korea (Seoul). A vote of full member societies will be taken on the morning of Tuesday 18 May!

Both the RACGP and RNZCGP have a strong history of hosting successful national annual scientific meetings and together with the experience of the RACGP hosting Wonca Asia Pacific Regional Meeting in 2008 in Melbourne, we are confident that a World Congress in Sydney will be a successful and memorable occasion for all delegates. It is intended that the conference would be combined with both college’s national conferences.

Sydney is a popular and well regarded conference destination with renowned success in hosting international events. The bid committee is working closely with Business Events Sydney to ensure that our pitch is professional and impressive. Our proposal will include hosting satellite connections to New Zealand during the conference, with pre-conference tours in Christchurch, Auckland; and post-conference tours around Australia, showcasing Australian and New Zealand expertise in primary care.

You can assist with our bid by encouraging your friends and colleagues from around the world to VOTE FOR SYDNEY.
