According to a report from the NSW Government’s new Bureau of Health Information, general practice in NSW rates second highest in the world in terms of the medical care provided to patients, two places higher than the rest of Australia.

Changes to pathology legislation will benefit patients and GPs

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) is pleased that the government has agreed to a legislative amendment to the Health Insurance Amendment (Pathology Requests) Bill 2010, which gives doctors the opportunity to specify that patients use a particular pathology provider if there is a clinical need to do so. The bill has been passed through Parliament last week.

RACGP welcomes new funding approach to after-hours care

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has welcomed today’s announcement by the Federal Government that it will delay the removal of the after-hours Tier 1 Practice Incentive Payment (PIP). The government confirmed that the after-hours Tier 1 PIP, which was due to finish in July 2011, will continue until June 2013.

International medical graduates learn about general practice in Australia

International medical graduates (IMGs) play a critical role in the health and wellbeing of Australian patients, and are integral to the long-term future of our healthcare system. However, for many IMGs the road to working as a doctor in Australia can be challenging and at times confusing. This has prompted the Queensland Faculty of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) to host the ‘2010 International Medical Graduate Forum: Diversity in Our Discipline’, from 12-13 November 2010 in Brisbane. The first IMG Forum was held in 2007.
