The GPMHSC strives to ensure optimal mental health for the Australian population through ensuring high quality GP education and training in mental health.

Role of GPMHSC

The General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration (GPMHSC) is a multidisciplinary body operating under the auspices of the RACGP, and is responsible for establishing standards of education and training for the Better Outcomes in Mental Health Care program. More broadly, the GPMHSC promotes the development and uptake of quality professional development in mental health for GPs.

The GPMHSC is funded by the Australian Government as part of the Better Outcomes in Mental Health Care program.

Membership

The GPMHSC includes representatives from general practice, psychiatry, psychology and the community. The RACGP provides Secretariat services, and chairs the group.

Committee members are nominated by:
The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners
The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine
The Mental Health Council of Australia (consumer and carer representatives)
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists
The Australian Psychological Society

GPMHSC Meeting dates and application closing dates up until 30 June 2012

Final applications must be submitted to the GPMHSC Secretariat by 9am Melbourne time on the due date to ensure that the application is placed on the agenda for adjudication by the GPMHSC Committee at the meeting.

Late applications will generally be held over to the following meeting. At the discretion of the GPMHSC Secretariat, following discussion with training providers, training applications may be held over to the next face to face meeting of the GPMHSC, when teleconference meeting agendas are full.

Please note:

  1. All applications are treated as confidential by the GPMHSC Secretariat and Committee.
  2. All applications are adjudicated by the GPMHSC Committee members during Committee meetings.
  3. Applications must have accreditation with the RACGP and / or ACRRM, prior to submission to the GPMHSC. Applications must be submitted on a GPMHSC dual application form.
  4. The GPMHSC will not consider applications for accreditation of training that has been conducted, prior to the meeting date.
  5. No activity should be publicised by training providers as a GPMHSC accredited activity, unless written confirmation of accreditation by the GPMHSC has been received.
  6. All training providers will be advised of the adjudication outcome by the GPMHSC Secretariat within 1-2 days following the meeting. Formal written correspondence will be provided up to 10 days following the meeting.
  7. Adjudication of training activities does not automatically guarantee accreditation.
