Exam Support Online (ESO) program

Preparation for the RACGP Online Examination

The Exam Support Online (ESO) program is designed to give exam candidates practical experience of what might be expected in the RACGP Examinations. It is available to candidates (that have a confirmed exam enrolment) about 6 weeks prior to their scheduled online examination. Candidates will be notified when the program is available via a Welcome email.

The ESO program contains nine activities: six educational modules that explain aspects of the exam, examiners' expectations and provide targeted resources, and two time-based online practice exam activities:

  • Clinical Knowledge Testing practice exam – similar to the Applied Knowledge Test (AKT) RACGP online exam
  • Clinical Decision Making Testing practice exam – similar to the Key Feature Problems (KFP) RACGP online exam.

The first activity that should be completed is the User's Guide to Exam Support Online. This activity describes the types of material available, and also gives an overall view of the functionality of each item on the screen. This is critical for those unfamiliar to the gplearning environment. Completing the User's Guide to Exam Support Online learning activity is highly recommended prior to commencing the practice exam learning activities.

We strongly suggest that these activities are undertaken in the order they are presented below to enable candidates to obtain the maximum benefit of the education provided:

  • Clinical Decision Making Testing practice exam 2012.2 (KFP equivalent).

The two practice exams can be completed in any order; however candidates will only have access to the relevant exam modules in which they have a confirmed enrolment eg. if a candidate is only sitting for the AKT exam, they will not have access to the KFP practice exam.

Instructions for each practice exam are shown below. Please remember that the practice exams are timed.

Directions

Reviewing answers and feedback upon completion

The AKT (Clinical Knowledge Testing) practice exam.

Candidates will have one attempt at the AKT (Clinical Knowledge Testing) practice exam.

On completion of the attempt each candidate will receive a score and will be allowed to view the answers, explanations and references.

Once a candidate closes the practice exam, the answers and feedback can be reviewed through the PDViewer. There may be a time interval of around four days before the answers become available.

The KFP (Clinical Decision Making Testing) practice exam.

Candidates will have one attempt at the KFP (Clinical Decision Making Testing) practice exam.

On completion of the KFP practice exam each candidate will see feedback on the automatically scored sections of the practice exam. This does not reflect your final feedback. You will also receive personalised feedback from the gplearning team of medical educators for the written question segments.

When your KFP feedback is available you will be notified by email.

Your feedback will be available via the PDViewer. Please remember there will be delay in the provision of full feedback for the KFP while it is being reviewed by a medical educator.

The gplearning team of educators will attempt to mark as many exams as possible but you must meet the deadline stated in your initial Welcome email. If your deadline is not met, you will receive a zero score for text entry answers. You can then review the generic explanations and references and self-mark your answers.

For best results it is recommended to use Internet Explorer version 7 or 8, Firefox 3 or Chrome. Other browser and platform combinations can result in errors during activities.

Please refer to your Welcome email on where and how you can access the ESO educational modules and practice exams.

It is important to note that the actual RACGP Online Exam differs from these learning activities in the visual layout and navigation. A demonstration system to allow candidates to familiarise themselves with what they can expect to see in the real exam will be available shortly, and candidates will be notified.

In addition to the ESO program, there are over 50 sets of multiple choice questions available in gplearning if candidates wish to test themselves further, including Check and the AFP Clinical Challenges. These activities can be found by using the search function located in menu on the left hand side and then using a keyword search. Please be aware that QI&CPD points will not be awarded for completing tests.
