GP and practice team safety

GP safety issues

The RACGP recognises the real willingness of general practitioners (GPs) and their practice teams to continue to care for people who may have a propensity for violence, but it also recognises the right of GPs and their teams to feel, and be, safe.

Obtaining an intervention or restraining order

If there is a continuing threat of violence or intimidation against persons or property damage, you may need to consider seeking an intervention or restraining order. The purpose of an intervention order is to protect the safety of the victim. Its effect is to restrict the perpetrator’s behaviour in relation to the victim.

This document was initially developed as a reinforcing activity for a practice team safety active learning module (ALM). Practices may benefit from working through the included case studies, questions and exercises when considering implementing improvements to improve the safety of their practice team.
