The RACGP Foundation
The RACGP Foundation
The mission of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners is to improve the health and wellbeing of all people in Australia by supporting GPs, general practice registrars and medical students.
The RACGP Foundation supports general practitioners by enabling them to deliver the highest level of quality health care. The role of The Foundation, through its Board and staff, is to seek donations, bequests and in-kind support through approaches to members of the College, corporations, government, trusts, foundations and others. By attracting and disseminating funds, The RACGP Foundation offers research grants, awards, scholarships and access to various projects which underpin the profession's commitment to continuous improvement.
In 2011, The RACGP Foundation invested just over $100,000 in 24 research projects. In 2012, The Foundation has increased this figure to over $500,000 for research projects for our members across the country.
The RACGP Foundation has made a tremendous impact across the country. Several stories of inspiration can be found in the ‘Making a difference: General practice research – our patients, our community, our future’ booklet. This booklet showcases the work of inspiring GPs who lead the field of general practice research. ‘Making a difference’ highlights the diverse stories of early career and established GP researchers from around Australia. The stories include a range of projects, including indigenous health, rural health, women’s health, cardiovascular research and more. ‘Making a difference’ tells these stories in an easy to read format that enables potential GP researchers to appreciate the diversity of research topics that are undertaken in Australian general practice, along with practical considerations for GPs interested in research.
