RACGP Fellowship
Requirements for Fellowship
In 2001, the RACGP developed a set of standards ("2001 General Practice Vocational Training Standards") designed to ensure that future general practice training met high enough standards to prepare entrants for unsupervised general practice in Australia. At the moment, GP training is funded by General Practice Education and Training Ltd. Its agreement with the Government is to provide training that meets RACGP standards, and Regional Training Providers are currently being accredited against these standards.
Since then, the College has been developing standards designed more specifically for the new environment. They had input from a broad range of stakeholders, and came into effect in 2005. Three sets of standards were approved - "Standards for General Practice Education and Training: Programs and Providers" that details requirements for providers of GP training; "Standards for General Practice Education and Training: Trainers and Training Posts" that details requirements of training posts and those training GP registrars in them; and "Requirements Fellowship" that details the requirements for achievement of FRACGP via the various routes to Fellowship.
