A guide to the Enrolment

Enrolments for the 2010.1 examinations closed on Friday 11 December 2009.
Enrolments for the 2010.2 examinations will open at 9:00 a.m. AEST on Monday 3 May 2010, and will close at 5:00 p.m. AEST on Friday 25 June 2010.

Registrars

We understand that some training terms will finish in February 2010. All registrars who will have completed 6 or 8 active training units by 8 February 2010 will be able to apply for enrolment during the October – December 2009 enrolment intake period.

International Medical Graduates

If you wish to enrol during this enrolment intake period, and require an assessment of your general practice time, we strongly recommend you submit your application now. It can take up to three months to have your overseas general practice time assessed and up to six weeks to have your Australian general practice time assessed. Application forms can be obtained from the following webpage www.racgp.org.au/img#application.

You are required to be a member of the RACGP prior to enrolling in any examination segment.

If you wish to sit all three segments of the examination in the one semester, you must enrol and pay for all three segments before the close of the enrolment period.

The KFP and OSCE can be sat in any order, provided you:

- have completed eight (8) active units in your general practice training program (12 months RVTS); or
- have qualified as practice eligible; or
- have passed the AKT (to sit the OSCE).

Please read all of the options carefully before completing your enrolment form. Please note you may only select one option.

Your enrolment options are to:

1. Enrol in the AKT only

You do not have to pass the KFP or the OSCE before you can sit the AKT.

You must pass the AKT before you can sit the OSCE.

If you wish to sit the OSCE in this semester you must enrol during the current enrolment period.

2. Enrol in the KFP only

You do not have to pass the AKT or the OSCE before you can sit the KFP.

If you wish to sit the OSCE in this semester you must enrol during the current enrolment period.

3. Enrol in both the AKT and the KFP

You are able to sit the AKT and KFP on the same day.

If you wish to sit the OSCE in this semester you must enrol during the current enrolment period.

4. Enrol in both the AKT and OSCE

If you choose this option and do not pass the AKT, you will not be able to sit the OSCE. You must pass the AKT before you can sit the OSCE. You will be eligible for a refund of the OSCE enrolment fee. However, a withdrawal fee may apply.

5. Enrol in both the KFP and OSCE

You must pass the AKT before you can sit the OSCE.

The KFP and OSCE can be sat in any order, provided you:

- have completed eight (8) active units in your general practice training program (12 Months with RVTS); or
- have qualified as practice eligible
- have passed the AKT (to sit the OSCE)

6. Enrol in the AKT, KFP and OSCE

If you choose this option and do not pass the AKT, you will not be able to sit the OSCE. You must pass the AKT before you can sit the OSCE. You will be eligible for a refund of the OSCE enrolment fee. However, a withdrawal fee may apply.

7. Enrol in the OSCE only

You must pass the AKT before you can sit the OSCE

8. Enrol in the Practice Based Assessment Program (PBA)

Not applicable to Registrars

This option is instead of sitting the AKT, KFP and OSCE.

Venues

Adelaide (SA), Brisbane (QLD), Canberra (ACT), Darwin (NT), Hobart (TAS)*, Launceston (TAS)*, Melbourne (VIC), Perth (WA), Sydney (NSW), Townsville (QLD).

* Hobart is the Tasmanian centre for the written segment of the examination. Launceston is the Tasmanian centre for the OSCE segment of the examination.

Guidelines for sending your enrolment form and supporting documentation to the Assessment Department.

  1. The Assessment Department will only accept documentation relating to your enrolment from yourself.
    We will not accept documentation from third parties sent on your behalf (e.g. from training providers, from CPR providers, etc). – the onus is on you to provide all documentation .
  2. The Assessment Department must receive all documentation at the one time. Do not submit documentation in multiple stages – wait until you have everything that has been requested before submitting your Enrolment Form.
  3. For information regarding documents which the Assessment Department requires to be “ certified as a true copy ” (including those people eligible to witness your documents), refer to www.racgp.org.au/assessment/policy.
  4. Enrolment forms and supporting documentation will not be accepted via email or facsimile. We recommend you send your application via express post or registered mail.

As advised earlier, all documentation must be received at the one time. We suggest you commence requesting this information from the relevant authorities and/or renew/undertake CPR training now.

Listed below is documentation that must accompany your enrolment form.

If you are unable to provide any of these documents, do not submit your application – it will be returned to you.

Registrars

  • A statement from your Regional Training Provider confirming that you have completed 6 (six) or 8 (eight) training units, or a letter confirming you have completed 12 months with RVTS. This statement must be on their letterhead and signed by their Senior Medical Educator (no other signatory will be accepted).
  • A certified copy of your current Certificate of Australian Medical Registration (it must show an expiry date).
  • A certified copy of your current Certificate of Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (this must be valid within 12 (twelve) months of the end date of enrolment, and show the date you undertook the training). For efficiency of processing we recommend the CPR course is accredited by the RACGP QA & CPD programme within the 2008-2010 triennium. Please refer to www.racgp.org.au/qacpd/cprproviders

Registrars who will complete their 6 (six) or 8 (eight) active units by February 2010

  • A certified copy of your current Certificate of Australian Medical Registration (it must show an expiry date).
  • A certified copy of your current Certificate of Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (this must be valid within 12 (twelve) months of the end date of enrolment, and show the date you undertook the training). For efficiency of processing we recommend the CPR course is accredited by the RACGP QA & CPD programme within the 2008-2010 triennium. Please refer to www.racgp.org.au/qacpd/cprproviders

You will be tentatively enrolled in the examination. A letter will be sent outlining how to confirm your enrolment in the exam after you have completed your required units.

Practice Eligible with Assessed General Practice Experience

  • A Letter of Approval from the RACGP Censor-in-Chief, indicating your four (4) years full-time approved Australian equivalent general practice experience, of which one (1) year was gained in Australian general practice.
  • If you are unable to provide this, or require a re-assessment of your time, refer to www.racgp.org.au/img#application to obtain a copy of the application form. It can take up to three months to process overseas general practice time assessments, and up to six weeks to process Australian general practice time assessments.
  • A certified copy of your current Certificate of Australian Medical Registration (it must show an expiry date).
  • A certified copy of your current Certificate of Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (this must be valid within 12 (twelve) months of the end date of enrolment, and show the date you undertook the training). For efficiency of processing we recommend the CPR course is accredited by the RACGP QA & CPD programme within the 2008-2010 triennium.
  • Your current Curriculum Vitae.
  • Certificates or Statements of your participation in continuing professional development (including continuing medical education) within the past 12 (twelve) months.

Practice Eligible with Recognised Overseas Qualifications

  • A letter from the Australian Medical Council (on their letterhead) verifying your primary and secondary qualifications.
  • A certified copy of your Medical Registration from the state or country in which you reside (it must show an expiry date).
  • Certificates or Statements of your participation in continuing professional development (including continuing medical education) within the past 12 (twelve) months.
  • A certificate of good standing from a general practice medical college or association (on their letterhead), or from a government body (on their letterhead) that confirms general practice family medicine in your country of practice.
  • A letter from your current employer (on their letterhead) stating that you are working in clinical general practice.
  • a certified copy of your successfully completed English Language Proficiency examination results (refer to ‘English Language Proficiency Policy' at www.racgp.org.au/assessment/policy).
  • A certified copy of your current Certificate of Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (this must be valid within 12 (twelve) months of the end date of enrolment, and show the date you undertook the training). For efficiency of processing we recommend the CPR course is accredited by the RACGP QA & CPD programme within the 2008-2010 triennium.
  • Your current Curriculum Vitae.

If you are unable to provide any of these documents, do not submit your application form – it will be returned to you.

Before enrolling please ensure you read:

Once you have completed the online questions, an enrolment form will be emailed to you only if you are deemed an eligible candidate.

Your enrolment will not be complete until you;

  1. Print the enrolment form that is emailed to you
  2. Complete the payment details and sign
  3. Submit your Enrolment form and relevant documentation via post to the Assessment Department by 5pm, 11 December 2009 (AEDT).
