  2. Policy declaration

    Candidates may apply for advanced standing to obtain credit for a core module required in their pathway.

    This policy is authorised by the CEO.

  3. Background
    1. Objectives

      This policy aims to explain the principles that guide the assessment of advanced standing applications

    2. Scope

      This policy applies to:

      1. transition General Practice Experience Pathway Candidates from 30 May 2016. Transition refers to the staged introduction of the new General Practice Experience Pathway requirements to a accepted candidates between 30 May 2016 and 29 May 2018.
      2. all General Practice Experience Pathway Candidates from 30 May 2018.
      3. Specialist Pathway Candidates.
  4. Definitions

    For the purposes of this policy:

    1. Core module means an RACGP recognised learning activity required in the GPE Pathway or the Specialist Pathway.
    2. Candidate means a medical practitioner who is enrolled in the new GPE Pathway or the Specialist Pathway.
  5. General principles
    1. Applying for Advanced Standing
      1. The advanced standing application process is detailed in RACGP’s Applying for Advanced Standing Guidance Document.
    2. Recognition of core modules
      1. Advanced standing will only be granted if a Candidate has completed the core module specified for their pathway and there have been no substantive changes to this core module since the time of completion. Similar learning activities by other providers will not be assessed for recognition.
      2. Core modules completed within three years prior to the date of application for advanced standing will be recognised upon provision of evidence of successful completion.
      3. Core modules completed more than three years prior to the date of application for advanced standing will not be assessed.
    3. Provision of evidence

      Candidates must provide current, full and verifiable information in their application as detailed in RACGP’s Applying for Advanced Standing Guidance Document. The RACGP will take reasonable steps to verify the information provided. Submission of plagiarised, false or misleading information will be handled as per the Educational Misconduct Policy

    4. Advanced Standing outcome

      Any advanced standing determination is at RACGP’s discretion.

  6. Related policies, documents and legislation

  7. Administrative procedures
    1. Access to published policy

      This policy will be available via the RACGP website as detailed in clause 6.

    2. Promulgation of published policy

      Relevant staff members will be provided communications explaining the function and role of this policy.

    3. Review of this policy

      This policy will have a review cycle of three years.
