Meet the new RACGP President
The College welcomes Professor
Claire Jackson, who has been
appointed President-elect of the RACGP.
Professor Jackson is a GP and GP Supervisor in Inala, Brisbane and is Professor in General Practice and Primary Health Care and Head of Discipline at the University of Queensland. She is an active clinician in part-time general practice and has been a member of state education, research, and strategic planning committees since 1986, providing a significant and positive involvement in health reform in many areas.
Professor Jackson served as Chair of College Council from 2003-2004 and is a past Chair of the RACGP Queensland Faculty. She is currently the RACGP Queensland Provost, and has served nationally on the RACGP Presidential Taskforce on Health Care Reform since 2008, and is long-serving member of Queensland’s General Practice Alliance. She also served as a member of the Brisbane Inner South Division of General Practice and South East Alliance of General Practice Boards between 1999 and 2007.
Professor Jackson has been active in general practice undergraduate and postgraduate education and research for many years, and has been extensively involved in health services research and reform since the early 90s. She was a member of the National Primary Care Strategy Expert Reference Group and provided a commissioned paper for the National Health and Hospital Reform Commission on new models in primary care. Her ‘beacon’ practice model was chosen as the preferred model for GP Superclinics by the AAAGP and the University of Queensland, and her practice, Inala Primary Care, was awarded 2009 RACGP Queensland Practice of the Year. She was also heavily involved in the development of Australian Divisions of General Practice in the mid 1990’s.
The College Council congratulates Professor Jackson on her appointment and looks forward to successfully working with her over the next two years.
"I am committed to growing our discipline in reach and prominence over the next two years, and working towards access to international best practice standards in family care for all Australian communities," said Professor Jackson.
Meet the new RACGP Censor-in-Chief
The College welcomes Dr Jennie
Kendrick, who has been elected as the next RACGP Censor-in-Chief,
effective from the RACGP’s Annual General Meeting to be held on
Wednesday 6 October 2010 in Cairns.
Dr Kendrick’s key experience includes 18 years in substantive positions in General Practice education, assessment and organisational management. Within that experience is also a 10-year term as a full-time medical educator including 5 years as Assistant State Director of the RACGP Training Program in NSW.
Dr Kendrick has been, for the past 6 years, an RACGP Censor and member of the Board of Assessment and Board of Censors. Her involvement with other organizations dealing with standards for clinical practice has enabled a broad perspective of the issues both in Australia and overseas.
The College Council congratulates Dr Kendrick on her election and looks forward to successfully working with her over the next two years.
"The College has a good reputation in education and assessment of standards. In the current climate, it’s imperative that assessment processes are flexible and responsive to the changing face of general practice, without losing rigour and with continued innovation to remain at the forefront of GP education and assessment. I aim to foster this culture and approach both within the College and in relations with associated organizations." said Dr Kendrick.
Meet the new RACGP Registrar Representative
The College welcomes Dr Georga
Cooke, who has been appointed as the
College Registrar Representative on Council.
Dr Cooke is a GP registrar working in clinical practice in Brisbane and an academic registrar at Bond University. She is the Registrar Liaison Officer (RLO) for Central and Southern Queensland Training Consortium and in the future hopes to combine clinical practice with teaching and research.
As RLO, she is an active member of the General Practice Registrars Australia (GPRA) Advisory Council and also sits on the GPRA committee for National Minimum Terms and Conditions and Policy. Dr Cooke is also a member of the RACGP National Standing Committee – Education and the RACGP Queensland Faculty Board.
The College Council congratulates Dr Cooke on her appointment and looks forward to successfully working with her over the next two years.
"It is an exciting time to be starting a career in general practice. We face both opportunities and challenges to improve access and quality of care for our patients. As the Registrar Representative on Council, I will work to further improve collaboration and open communication between registrars and the RACGP. Given the increasing number of training places, ongoing attention to training quality and standards is essential. Registrars as a group have much to offer the profession. I commit to representing them with enthusiasm," said Dr Cooke.
