Preparation for assessments

RACGP Faculties deliver assessment preparation courses and seminars that candidates are able to attend. Candidates can also download practice exam materials to practice for the assessments. The National Rural Faculty also has DVD resources available which were developed to assist registrars or other medical practitioners who are preparing to undertake the college examination www.racgp.org.au/rural/examprep

Useful resources

gplearning

Candidates are encouraged to make use of gplearning, the College’s online interactive continuing professional development learning tool. gplearning has over 100 activities that are valuable for refreshing clinical knowledge in preparation for the exams.

gplearning also offers the Exam Support Online (ESO) program, which gives candidates the opportunity to learn about the elements of the Applied Knowledge Test (AKT) and the Key feature Problems (KFP) and trial some practice questions with feedback. This is a free service available to candidates enrolled in the AKT or KFP exams.

gplearning is free to RACGP members, while non-members can purchase an annual subscription. For assistance please contact the gplearning Helpdesk on 1800 284 789 or email contactus@gpleanring.com.au.

check

check is an independent learning program produced monthly by the RACGP. A quality improvement and continuing professional development (QI&CPD) activity written by expert clinicians, each unit includes 5–8 clinical cases with answers, followed by 10 multiple choice questions (MCQs), as well as references and resources. check is available in hard copy, can be completed online via gplearning and is an invaluable resource to help candidates prepare for the RACGP examinations.

Tips when enrolling for or attempting exams

  • Make sure you have read and understood all the relevant examination policies relating to your pathway.
  • If you are unsure about something, make an enquiry as soon as possible via the assessment mailbox fellowshipservices@racgp.org.au.
  • Bring appropriate materials with you on the examination day.
  • Advise Fellowship Services ahead of time, if you will be taking any medication before or during the examination.
  • Familiarise yourself with your examination location and ensure you are punctual.
  • Read all instructions carefully, and follow them, especially the instructions on how to complete the exam paper. (Instructions are sent to candidates prior to each exam).
  • If you require any special consideration, ensure you advise the college as early as possible. Guidelines for special consideration can be found in the Special Consideration policy at www.racgp.org.au/assessment/policy
