Enrolment for RACGP assessments
The RACGP's Fellowship exam enrolments will open on 19 March 2012.
An enhanced, simplified on-line enrolment process has been developed to enable registrars to complete their enrolment and pay for it online at any time of their convenience prior to the enrolment cut-off for a particular exam.
The benefits of the new processes are:
- Reduced paperwork and opportunities for errors or missing information
- Enrolments are completed including payment in a single transaction
- Enrolment confirmation is sent immediately
- Ability to enrol in one exam segment, log out, and return at a later date to enrol in another segment
- There are
extended enrolment periods providing greater flexibility for
candidates:
- 12 weeks for the AKT/KFP exams (up from 8),
- 23 weeks for the OSCE exam (up from 8)
- The close of enrolment dates are separate for AKT/KFP & OSCE exams
- Exam result release of previous segments within enrolment period to allow for re-enrolments as required
- Removal of basic CPR as eligibility requirement for enrolment
- Recognition of previous enrolment – candidates who have previously enrolled just need to check their data for changes and select exam.
There will also be an increased number of approved exam venues to select from for the 2012.2 AKT & KFP exams.
The RACGP recognises a misalignment in 2012.2 exams in regards to timing of training terms completion dates relative to enrolment windows. Therefore, for the 2012.2 exam enrolments, the RACGP will continue to honour a policy exception and allow registrars to enrol in the Fellowship exams, so long as they have completed their required training units prior to sitting the exam. This process will be facilitated by Regional Training Providers.
If you have any queries regarding enrolling in the 2012.2 Fellowship exams, please contact the Fellowship Services Branch by phone: 1800 626 901 (M-F 9am-5pm AEDT) or email at fellowshipservices@racgp.org.au.
The 2012.2 enrolment period will differ from previous enrolment periods as the timeframes have been extended for more flexible enrolment options. Further changes to enrolment options will be available through the FAQs and policies closer to the opening date for enrolments.

Assessment Results and Fees
1) Assessments offered at the RACGP
The College currently offers two forms of assessment for candidates seeking to obtain Fellowship. These assessments are the College Examination and Practice Based Assessment.
The College Examination
The College Examination consists of three segments which can be undertaken either in one examination period or separately. The examination segments are:
- AKT – Applied Knowledge Test - an extended multiple choice exam
- KFP – Key Feature Problems - a mixture of extended multiple choice and short answer questions.
- OSCE – Objective Structured Clinical Examination - a combination of 14 short and long clinical cases
See Assessment Methods at www.racgp.org.au/assessment/policy for more information about the College Examination.
Practice Based Assessment
Practice Based Assessment candidates are examined based on three segments which must be undertaken in one stream. Candidates unable to successfully complete all three segments in one stream will need to re-attempt all three segments in a subsequent stream. The three segments are:
- Videotaped consultations – Assessment by a College examiner of 15 out of 90 consultations videotaped by a candidate
- Examiner Clinical Visit – Observation by a College examiner of a candidate’s general practice session, with a minimum of ten patients, at the candidate’s practice
- Viva – videotaped oral examination over a 120 minute period
