RACGP crest issues in general practice

The Australian Sentinel Practices Research Network (ASPREN)

ASPREN is a network of sentinel general practitioners run through the RACGP and University of Adelaide that has collected de-identified information on influenza like illness and other conditions seen in general practice since 1991. The network is part of the Commonwealth's bio-surveillance strategy for preparedness for emerging diseases. Data collected by ASPREN acts as an early warning system in the event of an influenza like illness outbreak.

We are calling for expressions of interest from general practitioners across Australia, particularly in rural and regional areas, to increase the number and representativeness of ASPREN general practitioners Australia wide.

GPs are required to electronically submit de-identified patient data on influenza like illness on an ongoing basis and may also choose to collect information on other conditions. ASPREN GPs submit patient data via a state of the art, web-based system, which is quick and easy to navigate (see attached screen shots). Participating GPs will be eligible for CPD category 1 and 2 points and receive up to date, first-hand information about infectious disease trends around Australia on a fortnightly basis (see attached copies of ASPREN updates). Both individuals and practices are welcome to be part of ASPREN.

Workshops for interested GPs will be held in capital cities and regional centres in each state and territory. Please fill out the attached form if you are interested in attending a workshop, or contact the coordinator for more information about ASPREN.
