The Australian Sentinel Practices Research Network (ASPREN)
ASPREN is a network of sentinel general practitioners run through the RACGP and University of Adelaide that has collected de-identified information on influenza like illness and other conditions seen in general practice since 1991. The network is part of the Commonwealth’s bio-surveillance strategy for preparedness for emerging diseases.
We are calling for expressions of interest from general practitioners in rural and regional areas to increase the number and representativeness of ASPREN general practitioners across Australia.
GPs would be required to electronically submit de-identified patient data on influenza like illness on an ongoing basis and may also choose to collect information on other conditions. Participating GPs will be eligible for CPD points and will have the option to receive up to date information about emerging infectious diseases. Both individuals and practices are welcome to be part of ASPREN.
Workshops for interested GPs will be held in capital cities and regional centres in each state and territory. A form is attached to collect practice information and workshop preferences.
