Photographs - GP of the Year Dinner

The GP of the Year award recognises an individual GP's commitment to general practice, service to their community and involvement in ongoing training and education and was awarded to Dr Bryan Connor from Richmond in north-western Queensland. Dr Preetham noted Dr Connor's extraordinary dedication to the profession and his community, his commitment to 24 hour care, his work in leading preventive health care strategies and his support of medical students and registrars, and also revealed that at 30 000 square kilometres, the area to which Dr Connor provided GP services was roughly the size of Belgium.

Dr David Mitchell from Williamstown on the NSW north coast was named General Practice Registrar of the Year for his service in the indigenous community, the Australian military and in East Timor. Dr Mitchell also assisted in the medical response and evacuation efforts after the second Bali bombing in 2005.
