Photographs - Academic Session
Recognising the achievements of college members and friends of the college is a special part of the college day, which precedes the convention. The Academic session is one of the great traditions in college life and a time that members truly celebrate their collegiality. The official party proceeded into the hall fully gowned, with the honour of leading the procession given to new registrar representative on council Kelly Seach.
New Fellows were welcomed to the college at this year's academic session, which also saw the awarding of Life Fellowships to Dr Eric Fisher, Dr Richard Gutch, Dr Beth Jane and Dr Bruce Roberts and the awarding of a range of Honorary Fellowships and Honorary Memberships. The prestigious Rose-Hunt Award was presented to Professor Deborah Saltman.
Succession was the flavour of the night as Dr Jan Radford was invested as the college's new censor-in-chief, succeeding the indominatable septogenarian Dr Beth Jane. Then, in the high point of the evening, with the college's most senior past president Dr David Game present on stage, Professor Michael Kidd gave his valedictory address as president of the college which was greeted by rapturous applause and a spontaneous standing ovation. He proceeded to invest Dr Vasantha Preetham as his successor and as her first official duty, Dr Preetham closed proceedings by accepting the presidency of the college and thanking those present for the honour.
