This eighth article in our series on breast disease focusses on breast cancer in young women. There are several challenges in the diagnosis of breast cancer in young women, and special consideration must be given to the woman’s fertility and body image issues. The difficulty in distinguishing benign from malignant lesions on clinical and imaging assessment in this group stresses the importance of the triple test of clinical examination, mammography or ultrasound, and biopsy.
