Interpretive Guide to the RACGP Standards for General Practices (4th edition) for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Services

The National Faculty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health has been contracted by the Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health to revise the existing RACGP Interpretive Guide to align with the new RACGP 4th Edition Standards, in partnership with the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO). The Interpretive Guide will assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Services applying for accreditation or re-accreditation under the RACGP 4th Edition Standards. The Interpretive Guide will be developed in consultation with key stakeholders including NACCHO and its affiliated state and territory peak bodies and representatives of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled health sector. The 12 month project commenced in July 2011.

Development on an Interpretative Guide for the RACGP Standards for general practices

A new resource

With funding from the Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, the RACGP has developed an Interpretive Guide of the RACGP Standards for General Practices 3rd Edition. The guide has been written for people working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health services. It aims to guide people who are unfamiliar with the RACGP Standards for general practices through the standards. It aims to help people understand:

  • The point of each criterion
  • The types of things that someone interested in quality would look for
  • The types of documents that are important in maintaining quality in each area of the Standards for general practices. Although this guide can be read separately, it is designed to be read in conjunction with the Standards for general practices.

The Interpretative Guide is available for download below.

Quality Improvement Workshops

At the invitation of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO), the RACGP contributed to half day workshops in each state during April and May, 2010. These workshops provided an overview of the Interpretive Guide and an introduction to the 4th edition of the RACGP Standards for General Practices.
