Vocational training bulletin
Feb 2008
Welcome to all GP Registrars to the new 2008 Training Year. For those who have been in GP training previously – great to see you again.
2007 saw a lot of work to progress new curriculum and standards within GP training.
The 2008 cohort of registrars start the New Year, with new training standards and a new training curriculum.
General practice is a diverse and challenging vocation and your supervisors and teachers are some of the best role models out there. Take advantage of their experience and knowledge to assist you in your career progression.
To all GP registrars continuing on your path to fellowship we wish you well in your challenges that lie ahead for you. And finally, to the GP registrars who this year will be taking your final examinations to achieve your fellowship we wish all success during the year.
I recommend to you the RACGP Curriculum for General Practice. This document is an extensive piece of work to update the previous curriculum. It is written by GPs for GPs and specific sections relate to GP registrars and provide a guide to all aspects of the professional life of the GP.
It is available on line through the College website for you to access.
The RACGP Vocational Training standards 2005 Version 2 are now in force for the 2008 cohort. Previous enrolled registrars will note that these standards add a requirement to undertake a Category 1 CPD activity in the 3 rd core 6 mth GP term. These changes have come about following extensive consultations amongst many varied groups, and are seen as a very important development for Vocational Training of General Practitioners.
You can be assured that there will always be continual development of training standards and curriculum to keep abreast in the rapidly changing nature of General Practice and the RACGP would value your input into this process.
We at the RACGP are very keen to hear how the changes have impacted on your training and any comments can be left by either e-mailing gptraining@racgp.org.au or leaving comments on the GP Registrar feed back www.racgp.org.au/registrarfeedback. Or simply call the college;
