National Rural Faculty

Members in rural or remote areas of Australia are also granted complimentary membership of the National Rural Faculty (NRF), which represents and advocates the particular needs and interests of rural members, rural GPs and rural general practice registrars. Any college member with an interest in rural or remote general practice may choose to join the NRF regardless of their location.

The NRF provides a range of products and services to support rural and remote members in their pursuit of clinical excellence including:

  • Educational workshops - Experienced NRF facilitators provide a range of QA&CPD Category 2 educational workshops for rural and remote GPs including communication skills, goals, priorities and time management, policy and representation skills, and a range of education and teaching techniques. Office based procedural skills attracts 40 QA&CPD Category 1 points.
  • Training grants - Procedural GPs who practise obstetrics, anaesthetics and / or surgery in RRMA 2 - 7 locations, may be eligible to receive grants of $2,000 per day, for up to 10 days per financial year for skills maintenance and upskilling. GPs providing emergency care in 24-hour triaging Accident and Emergency facilities located in RRMA 3 to 7 locations may also be eligible to receive grants of $2,000 per day, up to 3 days per financial year to maintain their emergency medicine skills.
  • Clinical audits - Attracts 40 Category 1 points and includes radiology and emergency medicine.
  • Rural communication - The NRF Bush Alert is a hardcopy newsletter distributed by mail to all NRF members.
  • GPReview/QA&CPD news - Includes news items and features pertaining to rural general practice.
  • Clinical skills scenarios DVD and Thursday evening lecture series pre-examination DVDs - These DVDs are ideal for rural and remote general practice registrars or other medical practitioners preparing to sit the college examination.

The NRF is also responsible for awarding and administering the Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice (FARGP).
