Standards for general practices

The RACGP has enjoyed a long history of developing standards for general practices on behalf of the profession. The college has a strong focus on ensuring the standards reflect the quality of day-to-day general practice, are acceptable, achievable and recognise and value the diversity within general practice.

The standards are an important guide for self assessment, covering the key processes within a general practice involved in providing safe, high quality care. The standards are also used as the basis for general practice accreditation, which involves a visit to the practice by peers. The RACGP National Expert Committee on Standards for General Practices is responsible for developing and maintaining the RACGP’s Standards for general practices.
