RACGP Position Statement on Aboriginal Health

The problems generated by over 200 years of accumulated loss and dispossession cannot be turned around without the commitment of governments and non-government organisations, as well as the Australian community as a whole. The RACGP is committed to reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and is sorry for the damage done by discriminatory policies and practices, including the forcible removal of children from their families.

What’s needed to improve child abuse/family violence in a social and emotional wellbeing framework in Aboriginal communities

This document details NACCHO's position on child sexual abuse/family violence through a social and emotional well being perspective, in line with the above definition of health.

The many faces of violence committed against and within Aboriginal communities must be addressed As a group of professional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander doctors we categorically defend our children's right to be safe and protected. We urge our fellow Australians and Government to be constructive, careful and considered in responding to issues of violence against and within our communities.
