Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Unit logo

The logo of the RACGP's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Unit was designed by Kahli Lutteral, a Yorta Yorta (north east Victoria) artist living in Melbourne.

The logo is based on the design on the shield component of the College crest (to reflect the unit within the College)

• The College shield is adapted to represent an oval wooden shield
• There are still four stars, but adapted to represent a likeness to the Southern Cross. The Southern Cross and other stars systems are important in Aboriginal stories (for some it's a possum) and also there position in the night sky used as seasonal indicators
• The snake remains, with Aboriginal design. The snake is a creator being and is also symbolic of health and healing. As with the medical profession
• The staff has been adapted to a message stick. The College via its Aboriginal health unit has a message to deliver.
