general practice healthcare in the upcoming May Federal Budget to ensure
communities receive the high quality care they deserve.

RACGP Specialist Pathway Grants – closing soon
The College is offering 90 Specialist Pathway Grants up to the value of $5000 each for RACGP Specialist Pathway candidates (Categories 2 and 3 only). These grants recognise that the financial requirements associated with the RACGP Specialist Pathway can be high and are designed to alleviate this expense by subsidising part of the cost of the Fit for Intended Clinical Practice Interview (FICPI) and the College examinations. Grant applications close 28 February.
RACGP 2011.2 Examination Award winners
It is with great pleasure that the RACGP announces the 2011.2 Fellowship Examination award winners. Several exceptional candidates will be acknowledged for their performance in the AKT, KFP and OSCE examinations, with various faculty based awards and the National Monty Kent Hughes Medal.
Personally Controlled Electronic Health Records Bill 2011
The RACGP recently had the opportunity to provide comment on the Personally Controlled Electronic Health Records (PCEHR) Bill 2011 and the associated Consequential Amendments. The RACGP believes there are a number of issues yet to be addressed in regards to the legislation, including the consequential amendments. New RACGP Computer and information security standards and workbook
To support general practices in implementing good information management and security processes, the RACGP launched The RACGP Computer and information security standards and an accompanying workbook.
$130,000 cardiovascular research grant available
The RACGP Foundation has partnered with The Heart Foundation to fund a newly established Grant-in-Aid program. The program is designed to support GPs to undertake research in the area of cardiovascular health and offers a grant of up to $130,000 over a 2 year timeframe.

Teaching in general practice
The theme for the January/February issue of AFP is teaching in general practice. This month's articles include clinical reasoning, teaching medical students, patient safety and trainees in the practice, practical issues, access to primary care, acute rheumatic fever, and HbA1c and glycaemia.

Introduction to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness
The Introduction to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness in general practice activity aims to improve the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by enhancing the cultural awareness of general practitioners (GPs), general practice staff, primary health care staff, and other health care providers. Medical students will also benefit.

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) launched RACGP Oxygen in 2011. RACGP Oxygen is refreshing the way general practice does business by delivering the right products, in the right place, at the right time to improve health outcomes and people's experience of health.
